Pre-Season Sumo 101: Who's in the Ring?

Nana Watanobe, Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator at Wake Forest University, will discuss one of the most traditional and beloved sports in Japan, sumo wrestling.  This centuries-old sport is related to nationality issues, and the traditional religion and history of Japan.  Although the sport looks very simple, it has rules and a complicated ranking system.  Nana will use the latest season’s information to give an introduction to sumo wrestling.  Admission is free.

Lunch & Learn - Goddess Mythology

Dr. Neal Walls, associate professor in the Wake Forest School of Divinity, will provide an introduction to goddess mythology in the ancient Near East, referencing a selection of the deities represented in the MOA exhibit Mother Goddess: Fertility Figures of the Ancient Mediterranean.  Attendees are invited to bring a bag lunch, drinks and dessert will be provided.  Admission is free.

Mother's Day Open House

In celebration of Mother’s Day, bring your mother to the Museum for the last chance to view our exhibit Mother Goddess: Fertility Figures from the Ancient Mediterranean.  Art activities and light refreshments will be provided.  Admission is free.
